Respect. Love. Honour. Friendship.

Every time I work with our Kapa Haka group and their whanau I am blown away! We've just completed our annual hangi fundraiser.  As a vegetarian, gluten free British lass the concept of hangi hasn't really featured an awful lot in my life.  I had the chance to get involved with 1 event a few years ago and somehow got willingly swept into the Kapa Haka group. I know most of my family and friends from overseas probably haven't experienced a hangi and with many of them having 1 or more of ...

Snow globes

Have you every made your own Christmas decorations?  As a child I used to make paper chains.  I haven't seen those kits around for a while but I am probably not looking either!  My own children used to make decorations, especially when they lived in England, where it seemed that for a whole term they did nothing but prepare for Christmas.  I've got them all in boxes and every year they come out as a lovely reminder of how much things change over 18 years.I was looking up...

Aromatherapy

Something a little different... I've always been drawn to inspirational cards and quotes.  During lockdown I decided to produce my own set.  With the help of my superbly talented and patient friend, Sharon, we created a set of cards based on my knowledge of aromatherapy.  Sharon was the keyboard whiz, designing the cards and getting the colours, images and font just right.  My job was to decide on the essential oils and come up with the words that fitted them. There are ...

Are we allowed to mention the C word yet?

It seems crazy to be thinking about Christmas.  The students still have their exams to take, teachers are gearing up for the last term of the year, people are planting their vegie gardens ready for summer produce, families are planning their holidays... and so on.  We are all so busy. Yet, the Christmas chocolates were in store last month!  I supposed there are some of us who like to plan ahead.  I did that one year, wrapped all the gifts and hid them carefully, only to wonde...

Students and exams

Students and young people have taken quite a knock this year with Covid-19.  In my day job I deal with students, especially students taking assessments which count towards their school qualifications.  Stress has definitely been a bigger feature during 2020 with teenagers that I come across in all walks of life. Epsom salt baths are a great addition to a student's well-being toolkit.  A bath in itself is a great idea to stop, rest, calm and relax.  Add in some natural, food g...

Doctors and Nurses

My appreciation for doctors, nurses, ambulance staff and hospital support crew has hit an all time high ๐Ÿงก Over the last couple of years I've had to spend a wee bit of time in Waikato hospital. I have been horrified by the abuse I have witnessed towards staff from patients and their whanau. Our concern and worry for our loved one doesn't justify shouting, swearing and hurting others ๐Ÿ’™ I am amazed and grateful for the patience, care, gentleness, time and humour offered to us. You must be bor...

Why do we use organic herbs?

Why indeed?   Regular herbs are WAYYYYY cheaper, so from a business perspective that would make much more sense.  But, I have never been about the business, I am about getting the best for my family's needs.  Hence, bringing in the best epsom salts that we can find in the world. It doesn't feel right to not use organic herbs.  The epsom salts are  i      Natural, not made in a lab ii     Chemically Pure, tested for impurities and heavy ...

They say patience is a virtue

If patience is a virtue then I have very patient and understanding customers. Thank you for waiting so patiently and understanding that the covid - 19 situation has affected everything, from the ship docking, to getting it unloaded, to having the epsom salts transported down to the Hamilton and Cambridge bases. It is not the easiest time for anyone right now.  Everyone I talk to seems to be affected by Covid - 19.  Extra work, extra time, extra effort, extra patience.   I rea...

Good news

Good news! Some of the epsom salts are now in Hamilton and should have been dispatched today. Those of you who opted to pick up will need to wait a little longer please. The truck takes 4.5 hours to get to the dock at the moment, due to the Level 3 Covid-19 road blocks, so the courier company is very behind schedule with everything. They are hoping I will have some in Cambridge by the end of the week....
