Peppermint

Peppermint is the third essential oil that I chose for my daughter to take to university this year.  Why?  Because she occasionally suffers from headaches and migraines, and when peppermint and lavender are blended they can help ease the symptoms.

I have also used peppermint to reduce fevers on occasions.  My father spent a lot of time in hospital during his life.  At one of his admissions they were battling to bring down his temperature.  I gave him a flannel wash using water and 1 drop of peppermint and down that fever came.

Do be careful with peppermint as it can be a skin irritant.  It needs diluting to about 1%.  Add 1 drop to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil.

Other uses: mental stimulant, digestive issues, insect repellent, nausea, shock, vomiting... and many more.

Whilst peppermint is great for treating nausea, please don't use it if pregnant.  Spearmint would be a safer alternative.

Contra-indications: Early pregnancy and high dilutions.
